What is the BDS Movement?

Introduction to Modern Anti-Semitsm

The BDS Movement, which stands for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions is the latest effort to isolate Israel and create new Boycotts against the only democratic state in the Middle East.

THE GOALS OF THE BDS MOVEMENT

The BDS movement claims they will accomplish “justice for the Palestinians” by bringing back the Arab League boycott of Israel which was organized before the independence of Israel and by appealing to the international audience by misrepresenting facts.

Under the guise of “pro-human rights,” they damage efforts to promote peace in Israel

by openly rejecting peace negotiations and by covertly harming efforts of economic cooperation and social normalization. This not only hurts the Israeli Arabs that wish to live peacefully in Israel and to contribute to the advancement and modernization of the State, and goes against their “mission” of “Palestinian justice”, but exposes their true objective: undermining and delegitimizing Israel’s right to exist.

"Definitely, most definitely we oppose a Jewish state in any part of Palestine. No Palestinian, rational Palestinian, not a sell-out Palestinian, will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine."

OMAR BARGHOUTI –
CO-FOUNDER OF THE BDS MOVEMENT

Why the BDS
Is Anti-Semitic

The boycott movement has many goals that are anti-Semitic by definition, an attempt to negate the Jewish people’s right to self-determination is one of them. Most of the people involved in the BDS campaign are motivated by opposition to Israel’s existence as a Jewish and democratic state.

Demonization –  When the Jewish state is being demonized; when Israel’s actions are blown out of all sensible proportion; when comparisons are made between Israelis and Nazis and between Palestinian refugee camps and Auschwitz – this is anti- Semitism, not legitimate criticism of Israel.

Double Standards –  When criticism of Israel is applied selectively; when Israel is singled out by the United Nations for human rights abuses while the behavior of known and major abusersis ignored; this is anti-Semitism.
Delegitimization-  when Israel’s fundamental right to exist is denied – alone among all peoples in the world – this too is anti- Semitism.
